Why did the chicken cross the road? Because it must have had a good reason to. The truth is, when you have a good reason, you are willing to do just about anything, even if you are a chicken.
Crossing the road really isn't that big a deal for most people. We use our senses, we look both ways as we have always been taught, and we just go. It doesn't take long, and we don't even have to think about it. But let us think about crossing the road from the perspective of an ant.
If you are an ant, crossing the road is a much bigger challenge. You might not realize that when you first start because, after all, what does ant really know about a road anyway? However, it doesn't take long to figure out that it is not going to be easy. Cars whiz by you. Big feet nearly step on you, and blobs of chewed gum put you at risk of getting stuck. A challenge that would take a person just a few steps, will take an ant at least a day or two. Crossing a road ain't easy for an ant. Believe me, that is what the Ellings feel like through this adoption process: like ants crossing the road.
On the bright side, every little step an ant takes across the road, even if crossing it takes all day, is progress. A person might not consider steps across a road progress, but we ants do. It's slow and we are always worried about getting squashed, but we keep taking steps. Why? Because like the chicken, we have a good reason. Thanks for your continued prayers and encouragement as we keep putting one tiny ant leg in front of the other.
